I am always looking for different ways to customize my dektop, I am a bit of a neard that way I suppose. Recently Martin Lexow put out this packk of icons he calls “blobs” and I really enjoy the look of them on my dock. He has also included templates to make your own blob icons. I am also using a dock from kano89 from MacThemes that compliments Martin’s icons very well, it can be found here.

I am not a smoker but I do like Zippos and close to 4 or five years ago I visited a venue in downtown Nashville called Buffalo Billiards. Outside the venue were a bunch of 20 somethings with clipboards. They all worked for Philip Morris and were handing out zippos to anyone that said they were a smoker and would take their survey. So of course I got in line answered a few questions, and got my new zippo brand lighter. One of the questions on the survey was “when is your birthday?”, and now every year on July 16th I receive a present from Marlboro (among the countless coupons discounting cigarette prices throughout the year). In the past years I have received cookbooks, wallet bottle openers, and other quirky items. This year I got two over sized chrome dice and instructions on how to gamble with my friends (maybe over beer and cigarettes).

The design of the packaging is always eye catching and the fonts and colors are always very consistent, but I can not help but think every time I get one of these gifts “Is the CEO of philip morris the devil”. Why only push products like beer and cigarettes and stand behind them so strongly. I find it strange, and I guess their only motivation is money and not the livers and lungs of their customers, but something about it always does strike me as odd.

This one is out of place for sure, but I really enjoyed it so wanted to throw it up for people who may visit my blog. I watch the news and sift through numerous news outlets on the web all the time and you begin to loose sight of what makes people good. This is that something that lets you breathe a little easier, I could not help but smile when the kids started to dance. Enjoy.

This being a new blog for me I am still sprucing up the design here and there. I wanted to give some interest to the background rather than just a blank white. So I decided I would tile some stripes for the back ground, but I could not make it to easy for myself so horizontal or vertical stripes were out. I set to work and after about half an hour I figured out how to do a fairly good stripe repeat tile. The stripes were tilted 45 degrees and were not the exact shade and color I was looking for, and I thought the exact 45 degree angle was not exactly what I was after either. So I hoped on google and searched for some stripe tile tutorials. That is when I came across my saving grace www.stripegenerator.com. Up until then I had been killing myself calculating numbers of stripes, angles, and a good half page of math, but all that changed when I found the stripe generator. The ease of use this web application has is fantastic. It keeps what should be a simple thing to accomplish, to being a simple thing to accomplish. I would just like to thank them for saving me a good couple hours of work, and countless hours of future work.

I was playing around with the light filter in photoshop the other day and decided to make a wall. First I just wanted a wall that gave the illusion of space through the use of the light filter, but before I knew it I ended up using all kinds of little photoshop tricks and came up with this one. There is a light, medium, and dark one, hope you like it.
